FAQ: Cognizant Placement

Q: What is the difference between GenC and GenC Next?

A: GenC is the standard hire track. GenC Next is for stronger technical candidates with higher starting packages and more challenging roles. Both participate in the same eSEAT but Next has an additional coding section.

Q: Does Cognizant visit all engineering colleges?

A: Cognizant visits most mid-to-large engineering colleges with placement drive MoUs. They also conduct large off-campus pools. Check the CTS careers portal regularly.

Build a Cognizant-ready preparation loop

Cognizant hiring tracks can differ by role and campus, so start with the official notice and record the exact assessment sections, eligibility rules, and documents requested. Take a short baseline in aptitude, reasoning, verbal ability, and coding. Split errors into knowledge, interpretation, and time-management problems so each study session has a clear purpose.

Technical preparation should follow your resume. Be able to trace a project from requirement to result, explain the language and database choices, and describe how you tested the difficult parts. Revise arrays, strings, SQL, object-oriented programming, and debugging. Practise writing a simple solution first, checking edge cases, and improving it only when the constraints require optimisation.

For behavioural rounds, prepare examples about teamwork, customer or user focus, learning, and handling an unexpected problem. Use your own experience from coursework, internships, volunteering, or projects; do not exaggerate a role you did not play. Review one mock interview each week, update your error notebook, and confirm any changing details directly with Cognizant or your placement cell. Consistency and evidence matter more than chasing an unofficial “most repeated” question list.
